Great Cumberwell Farm
Cumberwell is believed to have links with the doomsday book when Cumberwell Manor used to exist at the top of the Farmhouse Garden, until it burnt down - rumoured to have been by a cigarette left alight by the drunken butler!!
Great
Cumberwell Farm where the cottages are located has been in the James family since 1939.
Originally and for 55 years it was a dairy farm until 1992 when the dairy cows
were sold making way for a
diversification into Cumberwell Park Golf Club.
The original Great Cumberwell Farm and its buildings have not changed a great
deal over the years and in fact we still Farm over 300 acres of arable each
year, crops including Wheat, Barley and Oilseed Rape.
The Cottages
The Cottages you can stay in have been converted from an old tythe barn, which
has been restored with its original character in mind.
Each cottage has taken its name from an original field on the farm, many
of which have now been taken over by the golf course.
Cumberwell Park Golf Course
In 1992, construction of an 18 hole golf course started on a large
proportion of the farm
land, and in 1994 Cumberwell Park Golf Club opened its doors.
A further 9 holes were added in 1999 and in 2007 a 4th 9 holes opened -
creating Wiltshire's first 36 holes golf course.
